Club Meeting Notes

The January Board Meeting was called to order at 7:08am by Club President Kim Jennison on January 6th, 2010. Board Members present were: Kim, Dave, Sally, Ed, and Brian. Other club members present were Laura D, Gordon, Pastor Dave, Norm, Jon, Glen, Molly and Frank. There was not a quorum present for an official board meeting.

President Kim passed around a flyer for the Kiwanis Night at the Manchester Monarchs game on February 20th.

The Treasurer's Report showed the following balances in club accounts: Administrative $265.75, Service $8269.59, CD (Restricted Funds) $7701.09, and Conferences/Conventions $765.95.

The following Committee Reports were given:

  • Community Service- Laura D. reported on the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on December 26th. Club members who worked hat evening were Laura, Carolyn, Pastor Dave, Frank and Molly. The next date at the Soup Kitchen will be January 23rd. Norm spoke about the Pease Greeters and particularly the Christmas eve flight.
  • Fundraising- President Kim reported on the concession stand at the Whittemore Center on January 3rd. Kim, Carolyn, Frank and Molly worked that day. There are two more hockey games to work this month- January 9th and January 30th.
  • Service Leadership- Gordon and Jon reported on the Traip Key Club and Frank reported on the St. Pat's Builders Club.
  • Club Meetings- Dave spoke about the wonderful holiday party we had last Wednesday at the Patton's. The food was the best ever and there were lots of leftovers for everyone to take home. We will be having our social meeting this month on Wednesday- January 20th at the Ri Ra Irish Pub in downtown Portsmouth at 6:00pm.
  • Youth Service- Frank mentioned that we should start working on this year's scholarships. Brian, Jon, and Norm volunteered to work on the committee.

President Kim won the 50/50 drawing of $10 and Norm won the special Christmas re-gift provided by Dave Burke. Norm put it up for bid and Pastor Dave bought it for $2 and did not open it. Will we see it again next Christmas?

The meeting concluded with a round of Happy Dollars and was adjourned at 8:00am.

January 20th: Social Meeting at Ri Ra Irish Pub 6:00pm

January 27th: Club Meeting at the Community Campus 7:00am

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen

Our next date to work at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen in Portsmouth is this Saturday- January 23rd from 4:00-6:00pm. Signed up to work that evening are: Laura D, Gordon, Ed, Alice, Pastor Dave, Norm?, Jon, and Frank.

Whittemore Center Concessions

Our next date to work the concession stands at the Whittemore Center in Durham is this Saturday- January 9th for the UNH Men's Hockey Game vs. U Mass Amherst. We need to be there by 5:00pm. Signed up to work that evening are: Laura D, Dave, Jon?, Frank and Molly.

Club Membership Directory Update

Please make the following correction in your club directory:

The address for Ed and Alice Price should be 17 Curtis Road and not the PO Box.

District Mid-Winter Conference

The New England District Mid-Winter Conference will be held the weekend of March 5-7 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Worcester. Conference information and online registration is now available on the New England District web site.

International Convention

If you are thinking about attending the Kiwanis International Convention this year in Las Vegas, the early bird registration deadline is January 31st. If you register by that date, the registration fee is $195. After January 31st, the rate increases to $250. To get more information about the convention and to register online, click here.

Some of the highlights announced so far are: Colin Powell will be the keynote speaker at the opening session, Jay Leno will be the headline performer, and Jerry Mathers (a.k.a The Beaver) will also be a speaker.
